Nov 27, 2013 - With the resignation of Eugene, the ODBA is looking for a new tournament organizer or the tournament will be forced to be cancelled.  The ODBA will provide an update to this uncertainty as soon as possible.  Thank you all for your patience.

Main Round Draws vs Round Robin

March 11th, 2013 - Larger draws with 8 or more will have a main round + consolation format.  Smaller draws will be played as round robins.  Also, note that some age categories can be merged together.  For example, with 2 in the WS 30+ category and 3 in the WS 35+, it might make sense to merge the 2 categories and make a round robin of 5 players.

Without a Doubt

Feb 26th 2013 - Without a doubt, the Ottawa District Masters Badminton Championships will take place March 22-23.  My name is Eugene and this will be my first year as the lead organizer, planner, and scheduler for the District Masters Championships. I am heavily invested that this tournament runs.  I am committed to getting this tournament run "without a doubt".  Many thanks to John Russell and Fei Tam helping to spread the word about this tournament. Together, we have been collaborating for the past couple months and it looks like the hard work will pay off.

One of my main responsibilities is reporting to the ODBA board of directors on all of the tournaments I help organize.  Other tournaments I help lead in organizing are the Mark Grantham, District Championships, National Capital, Junior Districts, and the ODBA Social Tournament.  The ODBA Board of Directors have voted unanimously that that I can work with a $300 tournament budget deficit.  My report to the board showed that 43 participants will financially reach the $300 tournament budget deficit.  It was purely factual, not ever meant to be a threat.

As it stands, over the last 6 days, there has been an average of 1.5 registrations per day.  At this linear rate, for the next 24 days, we would see 50 participants by the day of the tournament.  However, my experience with tournament registrations, tells me that I can expect an exponential growth up until 5 days before the tournament.  So, I should probably expect to see closer to 70 to 75 participants.

What this means to you, is that I can safely say, with over a 99.9% confidence interval that this tournament is a green-light to go ahead.

I hope this relieves the many questions and concerns about this tournament.

I look forward to seeing all of you at the tournament!
